We’ve been so<\/em> looking forward to Steve & Thuy’s Vietnamese wedding ever since going over the details at their engagement session<\/a> back in the spring. We’re always up for a challenge, and we we’re both honored that they trusted us “white girls” (as the groom calls us) with such an important tradition. Despite the fact that we couldn’t understand a word that was being said, it still made me a little misty eyed seeing them all dressed up on their wedding day. Thuy looked so beautiful in her red gown, I couldn’t get over how ornate and detailed everything was. So here goes a quick run down of the day, and my apologies if I’m totally butchering this.<\/p>\n

It all started off with the groom’s family coming to the door of the bride’s home, and asking for permission to receive the bride. Once that is confirmed, the wedding procession of the groom’s family starts walking towards the house, with plenty of gifts and food in hand. After they headed into the house, there were a lot of speeches from both sides of the families, prayers and every girl’s favorite part: the exchanging of the rings. Following the kiss, there were cards, gifts and what I assume to be advice from all of the family members to the new couple. Then it was chow time, and we got to experience some unique food, one of which was a purple potato? I didn’t each much of it for fear it would turn my teeth purple, but it was all tasty.<\/p>\n

While everyone was feasting, Thuy and her bridesmaids got dressed in their second dresses, the white gown and super cute bridesmaid dresses. Then they all piled up in a limo and we headed to Lake Eola and Church Street in downtown Orlando for some bridal portraits. Since we had well over an hour for photos, we got to experiment with some fun ideas and different locations. If you can’t tell, I had a hard time narrowing down my favorite photos for the blog, so I just posted a lot. After we started seeing bridesmaids passing out due to the heat, we decided it was time to head to the Heaven Event Center<\/a> for the reception. This was a lot like most American weddings we go to, except it had a 6 course meal (awesome!) and more speeches telling the other guests at the reception about how the tea ceremony all went down.<\/p>\n
